Glock 45 9mm Mods - Whenever the topic of 9mm handguns comes up online, it is only a matter of time before someone mentions the Glock 19. In many cases, this seems to be the default answer - but we don't need to tell you that G19 isn't always the answer. "Correct". Users with larger hands may find its compact frame too small for comfort, especially without the trigger guard cutout and other frame mods. In these cases, the Glock 45 9mm is a more reasonable choice, offering increased control and 17+1 capability while maintaining a compact G19-length slide.

As with most Glocks, the G45 can tap into a nearly endless supply of aftermarket components, but it comes with a challenge: materials. We've all seen builds that look like the gunny equivalent of a '93 Honda Civic with a big hood and chrome accents affixed by the pep boys. So when we decided to go with this Glock 45, we aimed for an end result that was distinctly bespoke, but remained tasteful.

Manufacturing began at Southwest Precision Arms in Goodyear, Arizona. SWP machined the factory slide using the Battle X2 pattern—a prototype at the time, but now a standard offering—which includes front and rear scratched areas, faded edges and side pockets. A variety of additional options are available; We went with a direct mount Holosun 509T slide cut (no adapter plate needed) and a window on the top of the slide. This window takes us to our favorite feature, Shoot Flat SWP Transfer.

A series of 10 small ports were drilled into the factory barrel; Unlike compensators or large single ports, these allow gases to flow slowly as the round travels down the barrel. The result is a return pulse that feels surprisingly smooth and predictable. With the recommended addition of a 15-pound recoil spring, our G45 continued to perform flawlessly with a variety of defensive ranges and ammo.

Although SWP offers refinishing services, we decided to send the raw slide and barrel to P4 Coatings in Tucson, Arizona because there were so many further modifications to it. The P4 wears custom framing based on our needs, including tightening grips with recessed borders, dot index areas above the trigger guard, and a double undercut. The P4 also installed an Overwatch Precision TAC flat face trigger, which was meticulously polished along with the breech and safety box. Combined with track springs and Wolff strikers, this produced a fast sub-3-pound trigger pull and short positive reset.

With the frame and trigger work done, our Glock was ready for a new finish. Rather than just using an off-the-shelf color, P4 Coatings mixed a custom shade of KG Gunkote Grey, complementing it with precisely masked black accents. Finishing touches include a set of Ameriglow GL-429 iron sights with plain black optic elevation from Brownells, as well as a Have Blue low profile magwell and serrated aluminum slide plate from Overwatch Precision. The final component was a Streamlight TLR-7A, which sits flush with the muzzle for comfortable everyday carry. We also picked up some 17-round Magpul PMAGs from the GunMag Store.

Ultimately, we're very pleased with the understated two-tone look of this build and even more pleased with its functionality. Glock 45 9mm Review - I have a habit, right or wrong, looking at things I've seen before and making borderline comments: "Nothing new to see here guys, come together...". I admit I have used that or a similar statement in some of my gun reviews. A more polite way of saying it might be "it's not new here because the old ways work" or words to that effect. That's why I'm introducing the new Glock 45. Not much new here, but†| Glock has taken two popular models and combined them, apparently. There are some improvements and design changes. Let's see where it comes from.

The G45 was introduced in September 2018. Basically, the 45 is a black version of the Glock coyote-tan 19X. (For my 19X review, click here). The 19X is the civilian version of Glock's submission for the latest pistol trials requested by the Army. As we know, the SIG Sauer P320 MHS (Modular Handgun System) pistol won this test. Glock (not the company crying in his beir) pretty much immediately redesigned the pistol for the civilian market. As far as I know, this all includes removing the manual thumb safety. The Civvy version even retains the lanyard loop. Thus was born civil 19X. This gun is a Gen 5 gun, which means it has:

(For a complete breakdown and explanation of the differences between Glock generations, read my article on Glock 9mm models). One Gen 5 Model 19 "feature" not replicated in the G45 or 19X is a less useful cutout in the front under the mag well. This cut is made, as I understand it, to make it easier to remove the crooked magazine from the gun if the mag does not release freely. There is another way to do this that doesn't involve causing pain when you shoot the gun...the edge of the cutout runs right up against my hand and hurts right up after the shooting period. I am not the first to discover this interesting effect. Although they have "dull" edge leading to a bit sharp, it can be a little easier on the hand. I for one am glad to see it gone in these two weapons.

Glock 19 Gen 5 Mos For Sale

By designing a pistol with a full-size frame and a compact-sized slide and barrel, Glock jumped on the bandwagon that other manufacturers were launching. This seems to be the current trend in defense pistols - large full size frames that can hold many rounds combined with easy handling, short barrels and wear. Now, if you're going to carry these two guns in an OWB holster, then grip length shouldn't be an issue. But if you try to carry a concealed gun, e.g. inside your waist, those full-size grips can stick and push up your shirt. I have always said that between the slider and the grip, the grip is the harder to hide of the two. The grip can be too long with the print, as mentioned above, but if the slide is longer, it can usually be hidden without problems. This is because the slide is hidden out of sight, unlike the grip. So if you're going to carry a 19X or 45 concealed, you'd better find a holster that helps hide the 17 round grip. If you decide to carry concealed, read this article about CCW insurance.

The 45 found mercy with the police. There are some interesting reasons, or at least I think they are interesting - I don't go out much. First, when the coyote-tan (insert coyote howl here) pistol hit the market, law enforcement agencies mostly saw it as an upgrade over their Glock 17s. But "they can't take the tan color and don't need a lanyard. They might be interested if it's available in black. Well, now it is. 45 solves that problem. Another reason law enforcement might be interested. in the approach of short barrel long slide that gun is very like their model is 17s. same grip, same mag capacity and similar case. they look good in a slightly shorter barrel, as shorter barrels tend to do better than long ones. one for some people. and considering the small difference between the Glock 17 and Glock 19 barrel length , the short one does not give up much in terms of the intended radius or speed. After all, they basically put the long barrel of the Glock-19 in. it's 45. it's 19 Glocks best seller, for some good reason. It's a gamble that pays off for Gaston's efforts So now law enforcement has a new kid on the block to evaluate.

The long-grip-short-barrel thing is proven in other companies' designs. Heck, even Taurus has gotten going. I just got a compact G3c (3.2 inch barrel) that comes with three 12-round magazines, but 15- and 17-rounders are available from the company, with a sleeve that fills the grip. And I have a Springfield Armory XD (M) Compact in .45 ACP that comes standard with both 9- and 13-round magazines. It has a 3.8 inch barrel. It seems to be a trend. And from what I've seen and experienced, it's not a bad idea. If you're going to carry a gun with a longer grip, you'll have to learn to conceal it well, but once you do, the benefits of having 17 rounds at your disposal can make the effort worth it.

The Glock 45: The 9mm Glock Perfected?

Let's look at the specifications. Just for fun, I'll list the specs of the 45 and also the 19X. Let's see how similar they are…

** Of course, as a 9mm Glock, you can use the larger capacity magazines that Glock makes in that caliber, including the 33-rounder and 50-round drum.

So we see that the 19X is the same as the 45 except for the finish color and the lanyard ring. My friend who loaned me this 45 for review also has a 19x that I reviewed earlier (link above). In my opinion, it would be like owning two weapons that are pretty much identical except for the color. They should carry and shoot very similar to each other.

So...do you buy the 45 or the 19X? It is for all practical purposes the same gun in different colors. If you wanted to buy a civilian version of the Glock pistol that was submitted for pistol testing, you would buy the 19X. On the other hand, if you believe that the gun is only "dressed" in formal black color, you will buy 45. Other than the lanyard ring (which should be removable, I guess) and the color, there is not much difference a. Both guns come with 17-round mags and the aforementioned Gen 5 features. So, more than most handguns, the choice really comes down to color choice. This is a matter of personal preference. I know which one I would buy, given the choice…

A few things jump out at anyone familiar with Glocks. First, the previous generation finger groove grip is gone, the slide stop is shown in this starboard side shot, and the slide forward cut is shown. But other than that... well, this is still a Glock that will attract attention. Very good. And the "short" wear is proven against the longer grip frame.

Texturing has been improved, finger grooves are gone and replaceable knockout pins for the back are evident. Also note that the hole is the same size for the mag release as on the other side - the reversible release.

There are some small tweaks here under the hood, but like I said at the beginning, it's not too soon to see here guys, come…

And one of the more interesting Gen 5 changes, the flared mag well. It really helps guide the mag into the grip.

As for the sights, they're pretty much the standard plastic Glock âcup-and-ball, goalpost-and-football, or â__- __-___â (fill in your own description). To this day, I don't know why Glock insists on fitting plastic sights of this configuration to their guns. The rear line they use looks like a clumsy attempt to replicate the white rear notch line executed on older Smith & Wesson double action revolvers. Looks like Glock used too thick a white crayon... For a company that supplies night sights on so many of their guns, why don't they just include them on every gun they sell from the start? Their guns are not cheap... Glock, why not give the buyer even more of an incentive to spend their hard earned money on your product by installing a premium sight at the factory? This can prevent them from buying other weapons that are reliable, just as easy to carry and shoot, and have included useful sights at a lower price. That's the question I want to ask
